Sweet Sorghum Facts

Sweet Sorghum can be planted and cultivated at low fertility soil and semi arid condition. It even grows at sandy soil. It is not recomended, however, to plant Sweet Sorghum at altitude higher than 500 meters above sea level. Cold temperature will hamper its growth, thus it takes longer to reach harvest time. According to research, the best conditions to grow Sweet Sorghum are : Temperature range : 23°- 30° , Relativity moisture: 20% - 40%, Soil temperature: ± 25° C, Altitude: 1-500 m above sea level, Precipitation: 50–100 mm/month for the first 2,5 months, and arid prior to harvesting. Other things to consider to get optimal result are sufficient organic substances in the soil. Although Sweet Sorghum will thrive better under drier conditions, it can hold flood if its roots are solid.

Location : Woha, Bima -Nusa Tengara Barat, Indonesia
Variaties : 4 sorghum varieties
Area : Tested on 10 hectare of land
Harvested : end of Desember 2013 - 50 days, yielding 20,4 ton/ha FAG
    early January 2014 -70 days, yielding 68,4 ton/ha FAG
